Become a Games Tester – Learn What it is All About

If you want to become a games tester you have to know what the job is all about.

Games testers find bugs for developers during the development stages of game creation. They rank the bugs in terms of their seriousness to help streamline the process of getting the game onto the market.

Testers are making sure the game works and that it is fun. When a tester uncovers a bug he has to provide a detailed document to reproduce the bug and accurately describe what is happening.

A tester can work on one or many games depending on the employer.

Testing pays on the low end when you start out, around $10-$12 an hour. A new tester will make around $25,000 per year. This goes up to about $75,000 in six years though so that isn’t bad.

The job for a typical games tester is to identify a bug and report it to the developers or to the team lead.

The actual work you do will depend on what game your testing. Since games vary so much in game-play and style you’ll find yourself performing a whole new job when you switch game genres.

Sometimes developers are given special tools to aid them in testing, even sometimes unique consoles that add functionality to the systems making debugging easier.

Games testing isn’t the most glamorous job in the world but that is to be expected. The job pays real money and you are playing video games for that money.
